This is the first blog of the series, in which we are going to study Environment and its parts.So without wasting any time, lets begin.

ENVIRONMENT

---

Environment is everything that surrounds us,no matter living or non-living.It includes everything-gases,water,trees,rocks,soil,animals,sky and even sunlight.Environment is responsible for supporting life on Earth, but sadly it also need our support.

Parts or Segment of Environment

---

Our Environment consists of four parts- Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Lithosphere and Biosphere, which we will discuss briefly.

1) Atmosphere

---

Atmosphere is like a protective blanket of gases surrounding the Earth,which supports life and protect it from the hostile Environment of outer Space, by absorbing harmful cosmic rays and electromagnetic radiations from the Sun.It also helps in maintaining the heat balance of Earth.It transmits only near ultraviolet,visible,near infrared (300-2500nm),radio waves (0.14-40m) and absorbs energy re-emitted from the Sun in the form of IR radiations.

The major gases of Atmosphere are Nitrogen and Oxygen, with some other gases in traces like Argon,Carbon-dioxide etc.In Atmosphere various cycle takes place.For Example- Cycle of movement of matter from organism to atmosphere, hydrological cycle, carbon cycle,nitrogen cycle and many more...

2)Hydrosphere

---

It is the part of the Environment which covers around the 75% of the Earth's surface and it constitute of all type of water resources-oceans,sea,rivers,lakes,glaciers,polar ice caps and ground water too.

Around 97% of total water mainly found in oceans and sea cannot be used for drinking purposes.About 2% of water is present in form of polar ice caps and glaciers and only 1% is available as fresh water (which generally present in rivers,lakes ,streams and ground water) uses for human consumption and other work.Fresh water can also be found in form of rain water,snow and dew...

Water among all liquids is only one that has high heat of fusion and evaporates at ordinary temperature.The major uses of water are-irrigation(30%) and thermal power plants(50%) and rest is used for domestic purposes like drinking,bathing and cooking etc..

3)Lithosphere

Lithosphere is outer mantle of solid Earth,which consists various minerals supporting terrestrial life.Lithosphere is mainly consists of three layers -crust,mantle and outer and inner core.

The surface of crust is covered with soil, which is one of the most important part of Lithosphere as it provides major support for terrestrial life.Soil is storehouse of minerals,a reservoir of water, a conserver of soil fertility, a producer of vegetative crops and a home of wildlife and livestock...

4)Biosphere

Biosphere consists of living organisms and their interaction with the Environment i.e. with atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere.Both Biosphere and Environment are influenced by each other considerably.Thus the amount of carbon-dioxide and oxygen present in atmosphere depend entirely on plant kingdom....

Biosphere as a whole supplies us with food and their exist s a cycling of material through expiration,excretion and extinction of the form...
