Hello!
Thanks for stopping by:)
I hope you have enjoyed the previous post and are excited for this one which i can assure you is more interesting and more fun:)
In this post i am going to talk about the famous thunderstorms. yeah! we have all experienced it but do we all know why it happens, How are thunderstorms formed? What are they resulting from? What cloud are they associated with? And lightning?
let's hit the road!

Thunderstorms are always associated with cumulonimbus clouds. There are two main types of storms, those with a thermal origin and those associated with a cold front (thunderstorms).

Thermal origin

These storms are developing at home in the hot season. At this season, the warming of the soil by the sun promotes the development of a convective layer and rising currents near the ground more and more marked. Cumulus clouds begin to form over the most important ascending areas. They are modest at first, then they grow more and more as soil warming and low-level air instability increase. The stage of maturity is reached when the upper part of the cumulus reaches the temperature of -40 ° C and ice particles appear in the cloud. The cumulus then becomes cumulonimbus. The storm cloud is born. The phase of dissolution of the cumulonimbus begins when the ascending currents supplying the cloud have disappeared and only descending currents remain.

Frontal origin

These frontal storms are associated with cold fronts. The cold air of the forehead jostles the warm air in front of him and lifts him up. If this hot air is also humid and unstable, the ascendants favor the formation of cumulonimbus just in front of the cold front. As a result, the formation of these thunderstorms depends strongly on the intensity of the rising of hot and humid air. If the heave is important, these storms can be particularly violent. They can be trained at any time of the day and year in our regions. Orographic storms develop on the slope exposed to the wind when a moist and unstable air mass climbs the reliefs. In fact, the reliefs play the role of the cold front by lifting the hot and humid air.

Lightning formation

As a result of the upward and downward currents in the cumulonimbus, thunderstorms become charged with positive and negative ions. Positive charges tend to be concentrated around ice crystals in the upper part of the cloud, while negative charges are concentrated in the lower part. Since the surface of the earth's surface is positively charged, when the voltage differences between the positive and negative charges are sufficiently high, electric discharges can occur between them within the cloud, from cloud to cloud, or from one cloud to another. cloud floor. Lightning is lightning from the ground to the cloud or vice versa.
