in 1816 the earth was in a cooling cycle when tambora blew it's top. That year was the year without a summer.
In the 1990s the earth was in a warming cycle when Mt. Penitumbo blew it's top. The earth cooled off a bit but the warming didn't stop.
We are once more in a cooling cycle...no global warming for 20 years, the last two years the global temp has decreased.
A super volcano erupting right now wouldn't be very helpful.
One thing...the siberian or deccan traps. If the equivalent happened today that would be a VERY bad thing.
Yes, this is going to be a 1,000 year or more cycle thing.

Recorded human history is from the last half of the current interglacial period. However oral history and folklore refer to a golden age before a great disaster.
Suppose the great disaster was caused by the melting of the glaciers. Earthquakes, floods, sealevel rise on a global scale in mere decades. If the civilization at that time was located near the shore like it is today then the rapid increase in the sea level would have erased them. (after ten thousand years of being underewater there's probably not much left)
How long would it take the survivors to regain a technological civilization?

BEFORE the disaster caused by the melting glaciers what would the weather have been like in the equatorial regions? The sea level would have been four hundred feet lower, lots more land available, the temperature would have been lower but how much?
Insteard of 100 degrees perhaps only sixty?

Anyway, regardless of how the life style was where the glaciers weren't, if the glaciers are covering the continent, it would be crushing a lot of current civilization.
so New York city, DC, Detroit and Chicago would be destroyed?
