Internet(IDIOT) Of Things

in #science6 years ago

The Internet of Things (IoT), also sometimes referred to as the Internet of Everything (IoE), consists of all the web-enabled devices that collect, send and act on data they acquire from their surrounding environments using embedded sensors, processors and communication hardware.

Simply put, this is the concept of basically connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other). This includes everything from cellphones, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, wearable devices and almost anything else you can think of.

many were surprised, in 2013, CNN reported on a flaw in Samsung TVs that would allow hackers to remotely switch on the TVs' cameras without alerting the owner.

But the WikiLeaks exposure of possible CIA spycraft highlights the unraveling of cherished ideas of privacy at home as we enter the era of the Internet of Things -- a world where many, if not all, of the objects surrounding us are "smart" (and therefore accessible to hackers).

Risk is part of life. The Internet of Things will be accepted, despite dangers, because most people believe the worst-case scenario would never happen to them

Sort:

The only problem with the IoT is that they are not YOUR things,

  • they are the govern-cements things,
  • they are the manufacturer's things,
  • they are the power companies things

You are begrudgingly allowed to use the thing, as long as you don't anger any of the other owners. Besides, all you did was "pay" for the thing.
