Fascinating structure of bird's egg

Bird eggs are one of the most fragile and delicate structures in the world. Yet, they have been regarded as a miracle of packaging. This is because of the way the shell is structured, the way the required nutrient (including air) for the chick is packed before it is hashed.

The shell of bird eggs is made up of calcium which gives it its strength and protection from external forces. Although the shell may look solid it contains more than 8,000 air pores which allow the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide possible, in order to keep the embryo breathing to stay alive.

Inside the shell contains a gelatin-like substance called albumen which enables the egg to absorb shock. This has inspired scientists to seek better ways of producing quality products with better shock protection. It also inspired them to produce better film coating that could protect fruits from getting destroyed by bacterias.
