Multiple Universes

There are many scientific concepts on what our universe is, how it has come into existence, and what it all means. We have evolved our means of thinking and understanding from the "Static Universe Theory" to "The Big Bang Theory", however, we are now questioning a number of issues within the currently accepted theory and looking for a better model to account for a number of discrepancies.

One such model attempting to take the place of the current model is The Electric Universe Theory, There are also a number of books further defining the concept. While this may or may not be a adequate model to replace the current understanding, the point is that science continues to question the universe and our very existence within it... because this is how science works, it continues to challenge itself, question understandings, shift paradigms, evolve, grow. All in an attempt to better define what is it is that is happening and how we experience it.

What we must understand is that we have very limited information and understanding about what is actually happening in our universe, how it works, what its for... i mean lets be real here we cant even see all of it, so how can we really claim to know anything about a universe we cant completely see ?

Observable Universe

While we continue to search for answers on what is going on in our own universe, there are scientists who have been working on theories of what it may look like if/when we find the "edge of the universe" and what lies beyond that end. If we reach the end of our universe does another one begin ? is there some kind of boundary we must cross to get there ? what would it look like ?

This is where we cross the threshold of what we "think we know" about the universe and what it "could" be. While these concepts , ideas and experiments are based on what data we have on the subject at the moment, there is a considerable amount of extrapolation which is needed to "think outside the box" for new areas of testing, again how science works.

Here is where we find the theories of multiple universes, parallel universes, etc. and the work which is being done to find some kind of support for what may lay beyond "what we think we know" outside of our own universe. But what if the concept of multiple universes existed within our own universe and beyond? This is where the copious thought experiment begins.... well began, this is a concept which i have rolled around with for a great number of years, lol.

It is a well documented phenomena that human beings have a subjective experience of reality, while the environment we exist in is objective. What this means is that while two (or more) people may experience the same event, our interpretation of said event can have considerably different meaning to each of the individuals.

There are in incredible number of variables each of us experience on a daily basis throughout our lives, each of them defining our experience further making it unique, these experiences define how we see the universe. With the insurmountable variables at the forefront of this concept it could be said that each of us is living in "our own universe". What this could mean is that right now we have over 7.5 billion universes all co existing in the same space and time... not to mention all the universes which have been and gone in the past throughout human existence on the planet.

Narcissistic Universe

The meme above represents the comedy of the situation, that the universe would "create man" just so it could observe itself, that the universe possess human traits and is so narcissistic that it would deliberately strive to appease itself with such a feat. Unfortunately, this is just the hooman condition projecting itself outwards on too all which is within means as it helps "make sense of the experience".

Perhaps a better model would be to focus on "life itself" as the basis of the observation, meaning all life throughout the universe is within itself a representation of a "universe being observed" with particular and limited senses. Each of these experiences being individual and slightly different, therefore defining "its own universe" just as much as mankind does, but in a different way. This gives way to an measurable amount of universes just on the plant earth, not even considering life of any kind throughout the observable universe and beyond.

Narcissistic Universe: Better Model

Conclusion

There is no question "if" multiple universes exist in the copious mind, the question is how are we defining it. For some it is reaching the ends of the universe, finding that wall that reads "This is the edge of the map" and then wondering how to get over that wall to see what is beyond. What we are left to consider with this approach is the:

~ Lucretius - Javelin Argument

As to space, I need but ask you, how can that be bounded? For whatever bounds, it that thing must itself be bounded likewise; and to this bounding thing there must be a bound again, and so on for ever and ever throughout all immensity. Suppose, however, for a moment, all existing space to be bounded, and that a man runs forward to the uttermost borders, and stands upon the last verge of things, and then hurls forward a winged javelin,— suppose you that the dart, when hurled by the vivid force, shall take its way to the point the darter aimed at, or that something will take its stand in the path of its flight, and arrest it? For one or other of these things must happen. There is a dilemma here that you never can escape from.

Javelin Argument

Flammarion engraving

While this argument has its own flaws it is representative of the hooman conditions quest for finding the answers that are out there, to test the limitations, to try and push past them once we have defined them. But this is the inherent issue, the limits are as we define them, we choose to construct the boundaries as we want them to be understood. Overcoming the wall can be a matter of overcoming ourselves, our thought processes.

This is not to say that we will or will not find alternate universes, parallel universes or multiple universes (etc.) out there at some point in space/time, but maybe its our perception of what a universe "is" that is preventing a greater understanding of how to find them... too often we find ourselves searching the darkest corners of the universe for answers that lie within ourselves and exist right before our eyes, we are just blind to their existence.

As above...

This is mind blowing. This ideas and our current inability to accurate describe what has only been theoretically conceived reminded me of the time navigating bellow the equatorial line was impossible and the source of all sorts of end-of-the-world legends.

In the same way we may wonder how came none before the portuguese went down and around africa to get to india, I guess there will come a time when a generation of humans will wonder how we were so dumb not to reach the edge of the universe and reach other universes.

It sadens me to knwo that I may not live to see that, although, another me may do it, right? :)

Many thanks for the comment @hlezama.

Its amazing how we humans can have such leaps in technology and methods of thinking, it is mankinds "superpower" , our adaptability. However, our downfall its being enchanted with how clever we think we are. Our ego prevents us form comprehending that everything is temporary, even our very existence.

As such , we lack the foresight to see that everything in the here and now can be outdated and redundant in the future, even though we hold these understandings about other "outdated principals" from the past... i theorize that we are in denial of the lack of our understanding of our universe and how it works due to fear of cognitive dissonance when questioning everything... the mind, simultaneously strong and weak, this is the human condition.

But yes, the one thing which is for certain is that, in time, we will look back on current "understandings" and think "how primitive we were to think that way".

I agree. Thanks for those insights.
I think that that arrogance is responsible for so much pain and suffering, utterly unnecessary and it is so funny (for lack of a better word) to see how easily we can switch from one conception to the next and forget about how many lives it took to do something so simple and gratifying.

Maybe in time, with repeated mistakes, we will eventually learn and grow... until then all we can do is the best we can and hope the paradigm shifts sooner rather than later ;)

@hlezama. P.S Regarding "living to see it ", im relatively certain the science states that in "parallel universes" (should they exist) you would, wouldn't, neither, and both ;) but we wont know till we check.... Schrodinger's universe , lolz

I won't laugh becasue I have a cat, but that may and may not be funny.

Negrito seems to be quite the character and you guys have clearly bonded, its amazing that we have the ability to connect that way inter species.

This is my fave image of your kitty Negrito, its all in the eyes :)

ur alays tryin ta make me think beyond my neural pathways.

dats what I dooz best....sometimes ;) and you know the more you use thems neural pathways the stronger demz get.... therefore your cookie noming pathways must be some of the strongest in the universe :P

funny but true story. when i was a few weeks old, my mom let my brother hold me while she was doing something in the other room. he shoved a bunch of tiny cookies in my mouth. I almost choked to death on cookies.

cool origin story.... now i know why you nomz demz cookies so much.... you wanna take revenge and rid the world of the evil that is cookies.... BY MUNCHING THEM ALL!!!!

A recently proposed thought experiment in quantum mechanics suggests that different observers can come up with contradicting conclusions both with 100% certainty. So it suggests that different observers live in different universes. Then how can they interact with each other?

Or alternatively those conclusions are not contradicting after and coin really can come up both tails and heads at the same time. Or, another alternative, quantum mechanics is just not applicable on the macro level.

All three different answers are not welcome because they force us to abandon at least one of three very sensible assumptions of how things work. But it seems we have no other choice.

I think we are too little selfish egocentric creature to understand what is out there, we have so many boundaries between and inside us, will we survive to ourself? will be able to not destroy our planet? indeed we have a very hungry mind that is always searching for answers in every direction, an ancestral need to fill the empty space with knowledge

time will tell if we are worthy of the responsibility of the knowledge needed to co exist and survive ;)
