Science Experiment : Making Balloons Expanding Without Blowing

in #science7 years ago (edited)

This time we will do a simple experiment of making a balloon without us having to blow it. These materials can be obtained easily in our homes.

This trial has many who do it, but not wrong if it is explained back so we always remember it.

Theoretical basis

In chemical reactions one or more substances can be converted into new substances. In accordance with this experiment, vinegar (CH3COOH) is reacted with baking soda (NaHCO3) to produce CO23 gas, meaning that there has been a chemical reaction which resulted in the formation of gas by chemical change, because it produced a new kind of substance. This is evidenced through experiments when vinegar and caustic soda are mixed and foam occurs, so that the small balloon becomes large, because CO2 gas is the result of the reaction.

Tools and Materials:

  1. Vinegar
  2. Baking soda
  3. Bottle
  4. Balloon
  5. Funnel
  6. Scissors and Ropes

Ways of Working

  1. Fill the mineral bottle with water vinegar hinga 1/4 the bottle height
  2. Put 1 pack of baking soda into the balloon with the help of the funnel
  3. Without dropping baking soda into the bottle, put the balloon into the bottle's mouth.
  4. Insert the baking soda inside the balloon into the bottle by rocking the balloon
  5. As soon as it is mixed, the gas will emerge from the solution and make the balloon expand without being blown
  6. If it has reached the desired size then tie the balloon and release it from the mouth of the bottle.

Explanation

Acidic acid is acidic, baking soda (NaHCO3) is a weak base having a carbonate group.

When mixed reaction occurs

CH3CO2H + NaHCO3 ------> CH3CO2Na + H2O + CO2 (gas)

Gas CO2 (carbon dioxide) produced will make the balloon expand.

Conclusion

The acid vinegar is acidic, while baking soda is alkaline. If these two elements are mixed, the degree of acidity or PH will be neutral, and when both are mixed in the closed state as the above experiments, then the two mixtures will produce CO2 or carbon dioxide gas, this gas that causes the balloon to expand itself. You can try it yourself at home, good luck.
