Title: Comparison of carnivore, omnivores, and herbivores
Link:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5090899/
The article is a scholarly entry from 2016 about a comparison of carnivore, omnivore, and herbivore genomes. It was discussing the limited number of research and genomic comparison of the evolution of different digestive systems. This is an interesting topic as it is something I have been wondering a lot lately. It stated that omnivores and herbivores shared fewer adaptive genes compared to carnivores. They discovered this by doing a comparative gene analysis changes associated with dietary specialization.
Chapter Connection (2.5 pts)
Chapter 22 is about nutrition and digestion. This connects to a lot of what i've learned about my body. Our digestive tracts seem to be much longer and different compared to carnivorous eaters. Another point often made is the teeth in our mouths are less effective against meat. We are labeled as omnivores and not herbivores as we can also eat and digest and meat but I am starting to wonder what diet is truly best for humans.
