Dolphins Have To Simplify Their Communication Because Of Humans

in #science5 years ago

Based on a research conducted by experts from the University of Maryland, dolphins have to simplify their communication. And it is because of the noise produced by humans.

The change was detected by analyzing recording made by microphones that are placed at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean about 30 kilometers from the coast and originally the goal was to measure the levels of underwater noise around Maryland.

The cause of the Dolphins’ problems is very likely human. The loud noises produced by many things that humans produce affect both humans and animals. Studies show they can affect bird calls and now it seems that they may be causing problems to animals living underwater as well.

The most common and loudest source of noise is shipped. When they move they loudness can reach up to 130 decibels. This produced an interesting change in how dolphins communicate. Their “language” simplified. It could be made akin to you yelling in a loud club. You will not be using complex sentences to communicate there, you will just yell the shortest sentence that has the largest chance to be understood.
