What If The Earth Suddenly Changed Into A Giant Blueberry Blob

in #science6 years ago

It’s the summer, it hot and that’s the time when many people tend to come up with crazy ideas. And the same happened to Anders Sandberg a computer neuroscientist from Oxford

He recently wrote an article about what would happen if the Earth got turned into a giant blueberry blob. He even specified it that while the blueberries would be tightly packed they would not be squeezed together. He used Canadian blueberries that tend to be bigger and stronger than European blueberries.

And as you can imagine, this would certainly not be pleasant for anyone who would suddenly find themselves on top of a giant blueberry blob. First of all, he would likely notice that the gravity has changed significantly. As the density of blueberries is similar to that of water a person weighing 68 kg would find that he weighs only 9 kg. But he would not be happy with his weight loss for long.

The giant mass of blueberries would start to collapse because of its gravity. Giant air bubbles would form inside and rise to the surface and the inside of the blueberry planet would quickly turn to jam. This collapse would also warm the planet significantly, by about 143° C resulting in a boiling blueberry jam planet.

On the inside of the planet, a completely new form of rock would get created. Blueberry rock. This blueberry rock core would be covered by an ocean of blueberry jam that would be cooling off and the released water would form clouds. An interesting question is if there is a chance that some of the more durable kinds of bacteria could survive the bluepocalype.

So, why did Sandberg write this paper? Well, a few reasons:

  1. It’s really hot.
  2. It’s fun.
  3. If we presume the Universe is infinite there actually is a chance such a planet exists somewhere. And that’s saying a lot about our Universe.

I hate the "Universe is infinte" stuff, because they took a correct form, and destroyed it.

The Universe is infinite.
But they take that to mean there is an infinite number of atoms.
That there is an infinite number of realities.

There is nothing wasted in our universe.
The bluepocolypse wouldn't even be tried.
There is no advancement of consciousness to be derived from it.
Its a non-starter.

The universe is not stupid. It is not based on random chance. It is carefully constructed.

We just have to look at DNA for the proof.
A human does not have billions of DNA, they have one DNA in billions of places.
