How new space race is being driven by business.

in #science7 years ago

In 1957 the USSR launched the sputnik , the world's first satellite.

In a race with USA to put a man on moon , It was the first step. The first communication satellite was launched in 1965, which was linking north America and Europe. The fact has become that space was no longer the preserve of government.

last year saw the launches of 220 satellites. There are now commercial rocket firm vying for business. And started competing to build a rover that can travel across the moon.

The space industry is estimated to be worth more than $300bn.. now that is huge.

There are lots more others as well, countries like Estonia and New Zealand are among more than 70 nations with their own space assets.

Prices are down now. A traditional satellite can take upto $62 million , but you can put a small satellite for $295,000 on a rocket.

As a result we are now capable of capturing more data than ever about our planet.
