DID YOU KNOW?

Science as we know is a very interesting course and entails alot of information about life as we know it. The most interesting are the fun facts we get to learn in science.

Here are some of those facts.
Did you know....

1- There happens to be enough DNA in the average human body to stretch from Pluto to the sun and back.
Now, as much as this might ridiculous, let me explain. The average human genome is made up of 23 DNA molecules which we know as chromosomes. These molecules when uncoiled have a length of 1.7 to 8.5cm. There are roughly 37 trillion cells in the average healthy human body. If these cells are uncoiled, and placed side by side it will give a length of 200,000,000,000,000meters (i bet you don't know what number that is...). The is approximately seventeen round trips from pluto to the sun.

2- The human body contains ten times more bacterial cells than the human cells.
Its funny how we tend to wash our hands, run away from people who look dirty or probably have the flu. The human body is more like a walking petri dish. Our body has more bacterial cells than we know and most of which keeps us alive and we cannot do without.

3-The Great Barrier Reef, at about 2000 metres, is the largest living structure on earth.
The great barrier reef is home to many soft-bodied and invertebrate animals. It consists of 3000 reefs and 900 coral islands beneath the surface of the coral sea. Its spread over 1000km and covers over 350000 square kilometers. It is known as the largest living structure on earth that can be seen from space.

4- The known universe is made up of 50,000,000,000 galaxies.
In a normal galaxy, there are between 100,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000,000. Now in the Milky way, there are by human description, extremely more than that in field of 100 trillion. Now, my people, do you still think you are alone in the universe?

5- If Betelgeuse should explode, meaning going from a supergiant to a supernova, it would light up the sky for two months running.
For people who don't know, Betelgeuse is a star. Not just any star but a supergaint star (the largest star size in the universe) in the galaxy and it is located over 420 light years from earth and it is still the brightest star in the sky. It has a a luminosity of 10000 times greater than the sun and a radius which is over 300 times that of the sun. Betelgeuse, has reached the end of its life time and could reach supernova soon.

Thats it for today guys....

Hello! I find your post valuable for the wafrica community! Thanks for the great post! @wafrica is now following you! ALWAYs follow @wafrica and use the wafrica tag!

This is informative. Really new to many stuff here.

I have always known few things about science based on prior understanding, and these ones you just shared is super cool. Learning never stops. More of this please.

Thanks for the post @talivet, now I can build a road from my house to Pluto with only my DNA!!!😂😂😂😂
