Because there is so much money on the table and the needs of the masses are surely predicted to grow a new range of treatments and methods for treating patients must be developed.

I would say that there is far too little money on the table when it comes to science and technology. Isn't it insane that almost all nations spend more on their military than on science. From what I understand in the US for example, most years 10-15 times more is spent on the military than on scientific research. We can do so much better!
