Why There's 24 Hours In A Day
Once a day. That's the frequency with which I'm able to create content that I think is somewhat meaningful and might be of some use or amusement to others.
The Babylonians probably used the thumb of one hand to count the digits of the four long vingers and multiplied those by the five fingers on the other hand do their counting; 5 X 12 = 60 - source: YouTube
Sometimes I wish there were more hours in a day, so I could contribute more here on Steemit, so today I'm here to tell you that we got the ancient Babylonians to blame for that. The Babylonians had a different way of counting and calculating things; they used a base 60 numeral system. More sexy sounding is a sexagesimal numeral system. Where we use only 10 digits, from 0 to 9, to express values, measurements and numbers, these ancient people used 60 digits. It is said by some scientists that this is a far better system for calculation. The number 60 is dividable by many numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30 and 60.

It's still a question how they came to the number 60, but it's clear our lives are still divided by base 60 numbers to this day. For the most probable explanation of the origin of the base 60 numeral system see the image at the start of this article. For time measurement the smallest unit we use daily is a second. There's 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour and 12 hours for the day and night of one earth rotation. There's 12 months in a year, Jesus had 12 aposteles, there's 12 in a dozen. There's 360 degrees in a circle and the angles of all regular polygons always sum up to a multidude of 60: 180 for the triangle, 360 for the square, 540 for the pentagon.
Here's a newsitem from last year about the discovery of a 3700 year old clay tablet that has proof that the Babylonians already knew the Pythagorean theorem 1000 years before Pythagoras, and an explanation why the sexagesimal numeral system allows for better and more accurate calculations:
Babylon Base 60: Ancient math was better than ours
Now there's a lot more ways this base 60 numeral system of the Babylonians is related to our daily realities, from the diameter of the moon to the distance between the earth and the sun, musical notes and vibrations... You always have to be careful when looking for patterns and repetitions, especially where numbers are concerned, because it's so easy to see causal relations where there are none. Still, I'd like to leave you with the video that provided the opening image of this article, where all the (coincidental) synchronicity and patterns are discussed:
SHOCKING..Could We Possibly Be Mistaken!

That is really cool that you can count to more than 10 using your 10 fingers. I knew about using your fingers in a binary method (which actually lets you count to 1023!) but it had never occurred to me that you could use other methods and still get to more than 10.
like in 210 = 1024 numbers ranging fron 0 to 1023... Yes of course! See, I never thought of it that way :-) Thanks so much for reading and commenting @dollarsandsense, I really appreciate it :-)
