Grand jeu - Pierre Dumage | Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 33

in #secretsoforganplaying5 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 33.

I'm playing Grand jeu (Suite du premier ton) by Pierre Dumage (1674-1751).

Dumage was a composer from the French Classical period of organ music. Some of his well-known contemporaries were Louis-Nicolas Clérambault, François Couperin, Nicolas Lebègue and Louis Marchand. In this style of music (different to French Symphonic), the compositions are titled in a way that indicates what registration to use. The Grand jeu from Dumage's Suite du premier ton is the final movement—a majestic ending! A Grand jeu registration means to use the prestant, reeds and cornets (without mixtures and almost without foundation stops).

Here is the list movements from the Dumage suite:

  1. Plein jeu
  2. Fugue
  3. Trio
  4. Tierce en taille
  5. Basse de trompette
  6. Recit
  7. Duo
  8. Grand jeu

I hope you enjoyed my rendition of this fine piece of French classical organ music.
