Be yourself and stick to it

There comes a time when you’ll probably already know everything you need to know. Sometimes we just need to be reminded of the basics:

  1. The way you define success is dependent on your level of self-awareness.
This requires moments of silence and solitude to allow for reflection. Downtime is when we are able to put things into perspective and translate those experiences into meaningful lessons. Without it, we are nothing more than robots programmed by our social environment. We are bombarded with information, but we don’t always have a lot of understanding. Avoid this habit.

  2. Commit to one thing or one idea at a time.
Just like how you get more done when you focus on one task at a time, life becomes more meaningful when we stop scrolling from one social distraction to the next and start examining how your relationships are mirroring something in yourself.
Time rewards those who are committed. Keep practicing, keep growing, and keep showing up. The rewards are coming.

  3. If you find a sensible strategy that works, stick with it.
Don’t change it unless you are sure it no longer works, or you’re sure you have found one that works better. Hacks can be the new hype but before you invest in the concept, be sure the short-cut is actually a short-cut.

  4. Say ‘No’ more often.
We have a tendency to get bored with what we are doing, or insecure, or greedy, and we start chasing things we should be saying no to (such as listings that won’t sell). Warren Buffett has said that successful people say no to almost everything. This is wise.

  5. You would never compare a tiger to a shark, so don’t compare yourself to someone else.
A tiger and a shark are very successful at what they do. But if you were to throw a tiger in the ocean or a shark in the jungle, they would quickly die. Tigers don’t have fins or gills, and sharks don’t have claws and lungs. Comparing the two is useless and one would always be a failure. Comparing yourself to other agents is not only a denial of your unique potential, but it will also lead to deep unhappiness.

Remember, be you. But be the best you.
