One Sunday at the end of March last year, I had to move my mother to Valencia. After leaving her at her destination and being quite early, my fiancée Fabiola and I decided to take advantage of the rest of the day, before returning home, visiting the city of Puerto Cabello (Hair Port, in english). The drizzle that had accompanied us part of the road, had disappeared, and even when the sun was not visible in the sky, we had time to spare.

Puerto Cabello is a city of Venezuela, in whose vicinity is the most important seaport and of greater economic value of the country due to its great activity of import of raw materials for the Venezuelan industrial sector.
The origin of the name of the city is not established; it is said that it is due to the tranquility of its marine waters, so calm that boats of great depth could be moored with the strand of a hair. Some historians argue that in the mid-sixteenth century an adventurer and smuggler, named Andres Cabello, established a base of operations in the area, where he anchored their boats and stored their goods, giving rise to a small town that eventually took its name. When we arrived in Puerto Cabello, we decided to look for the historic center of the city. During the trip, we were surprised by the solitude in the streets, true, it was Sunday, but also the abandonment that some buildings exhibited.

Once we arrived at the central town, we proceeded to look for the famous "Calle Los Lanceros" to go through it and take some pictures.

At the end of our impromptu photo shoot, we returned to our home, Barquisimeto, not without first eating some of the traditional empanadas at "El Palito". (A empanada is a stuffed bread or pastry baked or fried in many countries of The Americas and in Spain)

Certainly, this is a destination that has qualities to become a tourist emporium, unfortunately, the apathy of local authorities and the overwhelming crisis that rushes on the Venezuelan people, threaten any initiative in this regard, however, I have faith, that sooner or later, this beautiful country will be reborn as a Phoenix bird from its ashes.
