South Africa's Largest Snake - The Southern African Rock Python
This snake can grew to a whopping 6m long. Further North in Africa you get the African Rock Python growing up to a massive 8m long - making it the third largest snake in the world after the Green Anaconda of South America, and the Reticulated Python of SE Asia.
The mother shows limited parental care. She typically lays her eggs in an underground hole. She incubates her eggs by basking in the sun - then she coils around her eggs transferring the heat. She stays at the nest until after the babies hatch.
I have even observed baby Southern African Rock Pythons basking on their mother's back.
