Snowflakes on Mars

‘Space, the final frontier’. Oops, my bad - frontier is not an OK word to use when speaking about space and our current efforts to get there.
We have yet to discover the tiniest alien life form, a microbe, a bloody bacteria, anything and snowflakes already claim to speak on their behalf. Championing a minority that doesn’t even exist yet! (Somebody must be running out of reasons to be offended!)
According to American astronomer Lucianne Walkowicz, we should be refraining from using certain words when speaking about space exploration. Again, sorry, ‘exploring’ is a bad word, very negative connotations. I don’t know why.
‘Colonization’ is out of the question, because, you know, Columbus and others like him.
Thinking about a human settlement on Mars? Forget about it - ‘settlement’ is a triggering word, because the Middle East and all that.

It’s already hard to have any patience with snowflakes being offended by all sorts of things here on Earth and now they’re already offended by what might happen in the future.
Like a possible human mission to Mars which has to be ‘inclusive’. It is not enough for that future crew going to Mars to include a token transgender black midget, it has to be ‘people from a wider range of experiences and backgrounds’. If you’ve watched too many sci-fi movies and believe that such crew would be composed of scientists, doctors, physicists, engineers, well, you’re very sexist, racist, totally not PC. What is amazing is that this woman is a scientist herself, chair of Astrobiology at the Library of Congress, someone who should know that one has to have certain qualifications to go on a bloody space-mission.
And anyway it’s about time “to stop having our narratives about space only coming from people who are extremely privileged, which in this space means predominantly rich, white, male venture capitalists.”
Obviously, why listen to the narrative spawned by Elon Musk, who has both money and ideas about space exploration? We could ask for input from a homeless transgender from New York, a black fruit vendor from Nairobi or a fat vegan widow from Indonesia - I’m sure they all have something to say about a mission to Mars. Hell, I have my own ideas about a space mission. Which will not be ‘manned’, of course… peopled, maybe!

However, reading about this stupid snowflake I had a little epiphany as to why this movement is so popular? Because it’s easy, it’s just words, just publish some rant on social-media and you’re a progressive SJW. No effort of any kind required and you can go to bed feeling great about yourself. Each of us could be a damn good digital warrior if we put our mind to it. What I’d like to see is one of these snowflakes donating half their earnings to the women working in the sweatshops in Bangladesh, struggling to feed four children and a drunken husband. Now that’s a minority that could use some real protection, right here on Earth. Give up your daily latte and send the money to a poor kid in Yemen (wait, no, we already send bombs to those!). There are plenty of worthy causes on Earth, no need to fight for the rights of an alien microbe we haven’t discovered yet.

Thanks for reading

Yeah, it is way past ridiculous. I think Trump got half his votes from those of us who appreciated he was saying things that were no longer supposed to be said in public anymore, lest some of those tolerant ones growing violent in the name of progress.

usually Europe follows US-set trends, I hope we won't follow this one ! ... but who am I kidding ? ...

Hopefully, this madness stops before it truly gets here.
