Steemit Meetup - Gold in My PocketsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #socalsteemit5 years ago

Hi friends,

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet up with a few Steemians and spend some time in the mountains prospecting for gold.

The @socalsteemit group has some periodic meetups, and @derekrichardson organized this trip up to the East Fork of the San Gabriel River in the San Gabriel Mountains to do something he has a lot of experience in – prospecting for gold. The other Steemians who came and, are new friends, were @csusbgeochem1 and @jnetsworld

We met at the bottom of the mountain (no cell reception once you head into the hills), and had breakfast burritos at Pepe’s Tacos at 8am. We then drove into the mountains to the spot where we would be prospecting and had a short hike to the spot. After getting setup and doing some test pans, we were quickly seeing some gold!

We prospected from about 9:30am to 2:00pm, moving dirt using our gold pans and the sluice box. Conversations were fun, and mostly were about Steemit, crypto, investments and life. After prospecting, we headed over to one of the mountain picnic areas for a potluck lunch and finished our gold cleanout.

We ended up getting a decent amount of placer gold, especially for the spot we were in. There are better spots on the river for finding gold, but it is a longer hike in, and we were only prospecting for a little while. Here is my take of the gold:

I could not find a good way to get a good picture, and the pictures do not do the gold justice. When looking with a magnifying glass, the gold is very shiny and has lots of contours… so cool to have some gold pieces in my pocket!

Thanks to @derekrichardson and @socalsteemit for a fun outing… We should do it again soon!

Take care,

Brian

Looks like a fun time!

Thanks for coming Brian! I'm glad you had fun. I had a blast. Even though it wasn't a lot I was glad we were able to find some gold. I'll definitely plan another prospecting meetup sometime. Hopefully by then I'll have that grizzly screen made for my A52 sluice so we won't need to do so much classifying so we can run more material and find more gold!

It would have been a good time even if we found no gold... the fact that we got a decent amount was icing on the cake! Good luck with the grizzly screen fab and installation.

Only problem is my gold fever has now gotten worse... might need to buy a sluice box now...

Great adventure sir @brian. I can see some small pieces of Gold. I think it's a great achievement and hope you will find more in your next journey.

I've been watching some youtube videos of people heading to the river for gold. No one has struck it rich, but it looks like a fun experience. Congrats on getting some shiny from the wild!

Hey, good news, having gold naturally is great.
