A Small Tribute To Amy Winehouse: Do You Understand Her? Do You Understand Me And Yourself?

in #society6 years ago (edited)

We always like to separate everything:

Biology is biology. Mathematics are mathematics. Chemistry is chemistry. Psychology is psychology. Languages are languages. Nothing has anything to do with each other. Politics are politics. And so on.

But it‘s all our human stuff.

Humans are humans. The world is the world. It is, what we make of it and how we think about it.

While being so busy with learning about the world and learning how to survive... earning money with what we do... we often forget, that everything we do finally is about being human and is meant to serve us as a mankind.

We forget, WHY we do things. And we come to the conclusion, that we do it for ourselves. Meaning everybody‘s little „me“ inside.

We feel strong, when we think like this: „It‘s my life“, „It‘s just me, myself and I“, „Don‘t need noone, that‘s no good for me“, „We can always party on our own“.

In music, we can often find this attitude of being something like a lonesome rider. Keeping our cool in fighting the world. Having another drink or two... and ride on.

To me, this is, what Amy Winehouse was all about.

I am sure, you all remember „Rehab“:
(please take your time and listen)

How is there a way of seeing this song funny, knowing that she died because of alcohol?

But we still love it, don‘t we? I love this song. It shows a strong will of being alive and not missing a thing. Not missing even 70 days. And of wanting to be independent. Maybe these 70 days could have saved her. She missed nearly a lifetime at the end. But honestly I don‘t think, it would have saved her. And I guess she felt that.

What she found weren’t friends and wasn‘t understanding. But the world laughing about her. Because of seeing her drunk on stage.

„Oh my god... she is a Pop Star... she should know how to behave...“

Humans... we are so human... why can‘t we love ourselves for being this species? We always want to be better. Better than anyone. Stronger than anyone. I guess Amy tried to be stronger than she was. And didn‘t see her friends who wanted to make her go to rehab the right way. So she is the one to blame right?

Everyone of us sometimes is like this: Not listening to what other people say. When our ears are closed: of corse we can‘t hear anything!

Instead we often like to look down on people who are weak in our eyes. Even better, when these people have achieved more prosperty than us.

And at the same moment we are embarrassing ourselves with not being able to listen.

Look at her face, when she sings the line „I just need a friend“... It‘s at 2.38. (please take your time and watch this moment)

How many people realized that this line in the lyrics is the one, everybody really should have listened to?

There is no „just“ in it!!

But she leaves us wondering, how that friend should have been? Saying yes to her lifestyle, but always being there for her?

I think with knowing, how her life ended, I would tell her: „Go to rehab. And quit your fucking job and do something that doesn‘t stress you so much! Find a way to do what you love, without letting it become something that you can‘t handle anymore! And take a deep look, who your real friends are. It‘s not your daddy and it‘s also not your party-friends.“

We all sometimes want to be saved ourselves... Let it be the perfect relationship, the perfect job, winning in the lottery, becoming famous, getting a lot of attention, Facebook-Likes and so on.

We often can‘t stand the thought, that we are all the same. We all want to be special in some way. And we can’t stand when other people are more special than us. We always want more. Not want to give more. (Okay... maybe except on Christmas... when everything seems to be about love)

And so we sometimes become lonesome riders

But what will happen, when we ALL become lonesome riders???

I think everything in the world should be about seeing our weaknesses and about exposing ourselves. Without blaming anyone. Why can’t we be so much more about respect? And try to understand each other? Like in the best relationships we have? And make the only thing we have incommon the most important one: being human?

It should be our only guideline in everything we do

We are different and talk different languages. Also when we talk the same language. Whether it’s called „mathematics“ or Chinese.

We can be so wrong, when we wanna be right. We can even be wrong, when we ARE right. Often we just forget, that everything should be connected with an „and“ instead of an „or“ to make things work.

We are so human. We are crazy and weak. We should love this, but still try to make it work better. For ourselves. And especially for all the people surrounding us. Let‘s be weak. Let‘s be open. Let‘s be respectful. Let‘s connect.

I love you Amy. You were a good example. Not a bad one.

Please take your time and hear the song again. It was so honest. And so good. And so cool, wasn’t it?

„That woman knows, what she is up to“

But it still was so „everybody should really have listened and realized that something‘s going wrong“

When I see many of the "celebrities" that either overdoes or commit suicide. Although saddening, I'm rarely surprised by it. Most of them do make it clear in their works/performances that they need help. But I've never had the opportunity to speak to them on a personal level. Many of their "friends" are too busy trying to reap the benefits of their social status, to lend them a listening ear, or to offer advice that may be uncomfortable to hear. Most people can't fathom the idea of being hopelessly depressed, whilst making boat loads of money and achieving such levels of fame. I on the other hand, see it as an inevitability.

I made a quote in my first couple weeks on Steemit that I feel is fitting.

"People love to Worship their Idols. The problem is people were never designed to be worshiped. After time, the worshipers and the worshipees actually begin to believe that they are in fact inferior and superior to each other. In this denial of Truth, both become corrupted.

The Worshipees, these, Idols get to enjoy the wealth and comfort of the lie for a while. But fall prey to the Truth, they are impostors. This is what drives many a celebrity Insane, or to suicide. Others appear to hold themselves together for longer while committing unspeakable acts in the shadows. But in the end they all eat, of fruits of their false labors.

On the other hand the Worshipers, daily eat of the fruits of their misplaced worship. They lack contentment, knowing deep down, that try as they might, they will never be as good as their Idols. For Truth would demand, that if they could, then there would be no reason to worship them. In refusing to stop worshiping these Idols, they war against Truth, and they remain trapped in the mind of a slave forever."

I tried to find a good reply on that. But now realized: there is just no need to. I can‘t say anything more or better.
