Songwriting Challenge Week #3 "We Are All On A Tour of the Stars" by Songwriter Morgan Washam

For this week's song post, I decided to make a commentary on a post I had seen on a friend's social media site. Earlier this year, I was casually scrolling through social media post feeds on a Friday afternoon when I saw a post that read something along the lines of, "you cannot be on tour if you sleep in your own bed". Now at first glance, I have to admit I felt a little butt hurt. This was because I certainly can sympathize with the weekend warrior musician mentality. Many musicians work a "regular job" all week long, and look forward to the opportunity to de-stress and unwind while on stage with their band-mates on the weekend. While this time perhaps does not constitute actual "touring" throughout various burgs and hamlets within a given state, many musicians still work very diligently throughout the week preparing for their weekend music bliss-time.

So I thought to myself, "this seems like an unjustified assertion", "after all, isn't there a bigger picture here?" As I gathered my thoughts concerning this conundrum of misunderstood passion from the post's author, it suddenly became clear. I thought to myself, "we are all on a tour of the stars". As the Earth constantly spins, we travel around the cosmos, moving at close to 1000mph, enjoying an ever changing view of the sky. I quickly posted a reply on social media, asserting this fact, and felt good for having fought the good fight for the day for a cause that is so dear to my heart; supporting and putting a positive spin on local music.

So next time before you reach for that keyboard to temper the reality for local musicians that reside in your home, hometown or are your neighbors and family, please remember, WE are all on a tour of the stars. We travel on this planet called Earth and have a new view of the cosmos every night of the year. As the spring months approach us here in the northern hemisphere, please take time to look up at the night sky and remember what an awesome tour each of us all get to be on every day of our lives. Also, please remember to go support your local touring musicians, as they continue on their ever-lasting tour of the stars.
