Guatemala: Unexpected things are magic. - La magia de lo impredecible.
Este paisaje me enseñó a esperar lo inesperable.
This landscape taught me that we have to expect the unpredictable.
Hace un tiempo viajé a Guatemala sin muchas expectativas, siendo sincero. Pensaba que me encontraría con un lindo país que no tenía mucho más para ofrecer que un par de paisajes impresionantes. Vaya que estaba equivocado. Estuve allí poco más de un mes y aprendí que no es bueno tener expectativas, porque si las tienes solo puedes decepcionarte, ya que el factor sorpresa está presente esperes algo o no.
Some time ago, I travelled to Guatemala expecting nothing to be honest. I thought that I would find a nice country that only had some cool landscapes to offer. Hell yeah I was wrong. I was there for a month, maybe a little bit more, and I learned that it is not good having expectations, because if you do the only thing that can happen is you being disappointed, as amazing things happen you are wainting them or not.
El calor humano. - Kindness.
Si algo me sorprendió en demasía de Guatemala fue su gente. Soy de un país en el muchas buenas personas con una actitud única viven, sin embargo, por la situación la gran mayoría de los venezolanos se han corrompido y han tomado malas decisiones en los últimos tiempos. Fue por eso que me sorprendió tanto encontrar a unas personas que, a pesar de que no eran tan cálidas como mis compatriotas en su mejor momento, son de alma pura y que ayudan a su prójimo como si su propia vida estuviera en juego.
If something surprise me about Guatemala it was its people. I am from a country where a lot of good people live. However, because of the situation the majority of people in Venezuela have corrupted themselves trying to survive in this tough moment. That's why finding this kind of people, which is not as kind as venezuelan people in our best moment, was very surprising, because they help you as their own lives were going throught problems.
Orden. - Order.
Una tía mía una vez me dijo al visitar su país: 'mijo, no estás en Venezuela, cambia el chip'. Me dijo aquello porque yo estaba sorprendido al ver el orden, apreciar como todo funcionaba como debía ser o de una forma que me parecía inconcebible pero que no tenía vacíos. Si nunca has ido a Guatemala seguro pensarás que es un país sin nada para ofrecer, al igual que pensaba yo; por eso estoy aquí para decirte que te equivocas. Ese pequeño país en el centro de américa funciona y lo hace porque sus ciudadanos así lo quieren; lo desean, pero de verdad —no como en otros países—.
Once an aunt told me when I visited her country: 'mijo, this is not Venezuela, you have to change your mind'. She told me that because I could not believe the order that was in front of me, everything worked properly and it unbeliable for me. It you haven't been to Guatemala you might be thinking that it is a country that has nothing to offer, as I did; that's why this post exist, as I want you to know that you are wrong. That small country in Central América works, and it does so because its citizens want that; they really do —not like in other countries—.
Un perfecto frío. - A perfect cold.
Estoy acostumbrado a caminar en temperaturas entre los 30 y 50 grados, aunque la sensación térmica es algo superior. Sin embargo, amo el frío y casi no lo siento. Fue por eso que Guatemala me compró, esa perfecta temperatura, que no rozaba lo helado pero que estaba lejos del calor al que estoy acostumbrado me pareció espectacular.
I am used to walk around the city with temperatures between 30 and 50 degrees, but I feel that it is even higher. I love the cold and I don't feel it, though. That's why Guatemala 'bought' me; that perfect temperatures, that wasn't freezing but it was far from that heat that I feel everyday here at home. It was just amazing.
La cereza del pastel. - Outstanding.
Yo cuando fui a Guatemala iba con bajas expectativas y esperando una sola cosa; me terminé encontrando a muy buenas personas, grandes infraestructuras en una nación ordenada —en la que caminaba de noche o por mi cuenta sin temer por mi vida—, una sensación térmica que me queda como anillo al dedo, entre otras cosas. Sin embargo, esa cosa que sí esperaba también superó mis expectativas. Los paisajes son lo que hacen de Guatemala un país diferente e inesperado. Subir la montaña y ver un volcán con un lago en superficie con múltiples hoteles a su alrededor —ya que es la zona más visitada del país— para mi no tuvo precio.
When I travelled to Guatemala I was not expecting something, actually I was; I ended up meeting a lot of good people, I saw beautiful buildings in a nation that decided to work —in which I could walk alone at night without fearing anything—, a perfect weather and other cool things. However, the only thing that I was expecthing surprise me too. The landscapes are what make Guatemala a different and surprising country. Climbing the mountain and seeing a volcano alongside a lake with several hotels around it —as it is the most visited place in the country—, for me it was priceless.

Siendo muy honesto les digo: quizás si estás acostumbrados a culturas como la guatemalteca y a paisajes despampanantes este país no te parezca la gran innovación, mientras que si vienes de un lugar que no presenta estás características quedaras boquiabierto, créeme, así será. Para finalizar, les extiendo la invitación para visitar ese país, el que no estoy seguro si visitaría de nuevo, principalmente porque quiero conocer otros lugares, pero que jamás me arrepentiré de haber pisado.
Being honest I say: if you are used to this type of culture and to outstanding landscapes, this country may not surprise you, but if you come from a place that does not have these characteristics, you will not believe what you are going to see, believe me. I invite you to visit Guatemala, which is a country that I don't know if I want to visit again, as I want to visit other countries, but I will never regret going there :)
