Casi sin intervención humana, las tierras congeladas antárticas entregan escenarios que detienen la respiración de los pocos científicos y turistas que logran conocerla.
La Antártida es el continente más austral de la Tierra. Está situada completamente en el hemisferio sur, casi enteramente al sur del círculo polar antártico, contiene el polo sur geográfico y está rodeada por el océano Antártico.
Con 14 000 000 km², es el cuarto continente más grande después de Asia, América y África.
El origen del hielo que cubrió la Antártida durante un importante cambio climático hace 34 millones de años podría estar en una reducción de los niveles de dióxido de carbono (CO2).
