Zoo Cordoba, Andalucia (Spanish: Zoo de Cordoba) officially opened its doors in 1968. The opening of the zoo coincided with the First Congress of the Iberian Union of Zoos and Aquariums, which took place on May 15 in the city of Cordoba (Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia).
Originally, the zoo had 8,000 square meters and 150 animal species, most of which were donated by John Barasone. And the flagship of Flavia, which was presented, eventually became the symbol of the park.
In early 2000, a major reform was carried out to adapt to the new law of zoos, approved in October 2003. The concept of the zoo of Cordoba was changed and began to improve according to the required European standards.
In 2006, one of the longest reconstruction periods in the Cordoba Zoological Park ended. The park is reopened after seven years of modernization of its infrastructure and basic equipment. In the zoo of Cordoba is now a completely renovated view with numerous animal species and many newly constructed objects on the territory of about 4.5 hectares.
Currently, the Spanish zoo in Cordoba is working in the global strategy for the functions of scientific research, species conservation, education and leisure, which correspond to the concept of a modern zoo.
In total, the park has 437 animals, 102 different species, including mammals, birds and reptiles. All this makes us spend several hours to get into an exotic and hospitable world, whose goal is to bring the importance of biodiversity to all visitors to the zoo.
