El futbolista croata, y mediocampista del club español Real Madric, Luca Modric, se alzó con la designación como "Mejor Futbolista del Mundo" del año 2018, según la Federación Internacional de Historia y Estadística de Fútbol (IFFHS).

El jugador , subcampeón mundial en Rusia 2018, se adjudicó el galardón tras conseguir una votación de 272 puntos, 128 más que el argentino Leonel Messi del Barcelona FC, quien ocupó la segunda posición, y que además llevaba tres años consecutivos ocupando el primer lugar en la selección al "Mejor Jugador del Mundo"
Modric continúa, de este modo, concretanto un año sencillamente excepcional pues con este es ya el tercer gran premio que recibe por su desempeño deportivo y en su vitrina personal ya se muestran el Premio al Mejor Jugador del Año de la UEFA y el The Besty es un fuerte candidato para alzarse con el Balon de Oro.
