Herons Unlimited basics

Herons Unlimited is a staking management service for Splinterlands built by @tcpolymath initially for @nealmcspadden, but now open to all card owners. We bring together card delegators and people who want to play for a split of earnings/winnings, and provide an automated system of rewards management and distribution. Playing and daily/season rewards are paid out in DEC, and tournament winnings are paid out in Steem/SBD.

How does it work?

We operate a number of accounts named after herons, cranes, and other waterfowl. Players and card owners sign up to partner in playing Splinterlands through one of our accounts, and earnings/winnings are automatically split between them in a fashion that they agree upon beforehand.

When a player plays in ranked play on Splinterlands, they earn DEC tokens through playing and Reward Edition cards through daily quests and biweekly season rankings. Herons-Unlimited automatically withdraws DEC to Steem-Engine, converts Reward cards to DEC through the @ottermaker service, and splits the DEC between the Steem accounts of the card owner and the player. (Over the long term the average Reward card is worth about 95 DEC through this method.)

Tournament winnings are handled similarly. When a tournament completes, any Steem/SBD payment is automatically split between the Steem accounts of the card owner and the player. (Tournaments which pay out other than Steem/SBD or DEC are handled manually.)

For Players

As a player, all you need is a Steem account (we can help with that) and a desire to play Splinterlands regularly without investing your money. If you can consistently do a daily quest every day, and play your cards well, you should be in demand by our delegators. Once you've come to a split agreement with your card owner, Herons Unlimited handles everything for you. We send you a posting key for one of our accounts, and all you have to do is play on it. You'll get regular distributions of DEC to your Steem-Engine wallet, and tournament winnings immediately.

For Card Owners

As a card owner, we know you're looking to maximize your return on your card investment, and we believe staking is an effective way of doing that. Unlike straight rentals, your cards are always in action and earning - no waiting for them to be rented, and if you need to switch what player you're working with we give a new posting key to the new player and the cards stay in the same account, eliminating cooldown.

We also offer the opportunity to get value out of non-maxed cards. We expect to have players who will be happy to play Silver and Gold-level accounts, so you can get a revenue share even for cards that aren't in individual demand.

As an owner, we give you an account name to delegate to, and you delegate out a full team. A full team in this case is functional playing teams at similar levels in at least four elemental splinters, in order to be able to complete every daily quest. (We can automatically reject daily quests from one splinter.)

You either find and come to an agreement with a player, or you tell us your desired percentage splits and we find a player for you. And then you sit back and let the DEC roll into your Steem-Engine wallet. Our accounts are designed to hold minimal assets, so you don't have to worry about security. Players never have access to their Reward cards, and only have access to a few hours' worth of DEC at any given time.

Otterworks' Share

We don't take a percentage of winnings - 100% of the DEC and tournament winnings are yours to split between you. Our profit for running this service comes from Ottermaker and the differential between the DEC value and the market value of Reward Edition cards.
