World Cup Players of the round: Semi Finals - Match Day 1

So the world cup has kicked off and many steemians are getting in on the action with prediction score games, reviews of the games, opinions of who they think will win it and who they are supporting for the tournament and it's really livened up my feed which has been pretty slow as of late.

I've been going through tons of World cup content on the site and I didn't see much love for stand out players for each game and I thought it would be a cool series of posts to run with for the next month.

France vs Belgium

Much was said about this class of the Titans with many tipping the winner of this match to go on to win the world cup. While France took a while to kick into gear they've consistently risen to the occasion while Belgium has been on fire throughout. Ranked among one of the pre-tournament favourites, there was optimism that Belgium's 'golden generation' of players containing skipper Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku could finally deliver silverware for their country.

But the win in the previous round against five-time winners Brazil proved to be their peak, and they suffered heartbreak in a major tournament once more. It was a cagey affair with neither team wanting to concede and giving nothing away, it was a match of plenty of half chances and with both keepers in superb form, it wasn't going to be a high scoring game.

While plenty of plaudits will be given to Umtiti for finally breaking the deadlock. I feel the real man of the match was Raphael Varane. Last night was a dominant showing by the Real Madrid defender and he did not give Lukaku a sniff

So there you have it, the stand out player from the first semi final games. Varane has been an absolute rock at the back and if he wasn't already at Madrid i'm sure offers would be flying in left right and centre for him to sure up any defence at a top team in Europe.
