Current European Rally Champion Alexey Lukyanuk started his rally career with an Opel Astra gsi group A car with lots of retirements because of the technical problems but he showed his speed right away.
I mean, when you watch his onboard videos, you can see that this guy has the raw speed in himself and it was a time when it will come in the results.
After some seasons wit the Opel Astra he started much more serious with Mitsubishi Lancer and that was it. He won some rallies with that car against much stronger opposition with better car machinery.
