When it comes to the greatest matches in the Spanish league, there aren’t bigger matches than Barcelona v Atletico Madrid. Apart from the El Classico, this match would be the closest match to a title decider. While most people would consider the league all done and dusted, Atletico Madrid would want to prove all their doubters wrong. A win at the Camp Nou would just that and even more. It might even reopen the title race.

Barcelona

Barcelona is clearly the team to beat in the league and probably in Europe. Led by the genius which is Lionel Messi, they are clearly a force to be reckoned with. This has been shown by them topping the league in recent times. Barcelona is currently leading the charge with 8 points. A loss here would mean that the gap between the top two teams would be reduced to five points. However, a win here for Barcelona would all but seal the race completely. It is set to be a cracker of a match and with Lionel Messi and his crew pulling the strings, we should have a match in our hands.

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid is a team who have had a pretty decent season. However, their season threatens to be a shadow of the last season where they won a Europa Cup. They are currently not in any domestic or international tournaments and they look set to miss out on the La Liga. However, Diego Simone who is the coach of Atletico Madrid has asserted that his team would keep on fighting for their title until their last breath. That breath might very well prove to be this match against Barcelona. They are currently 2nd in the league and 8 points between Barcelona. A win here would put them 5 points behind the defending champions with 7 matches left in the league. They would be hoping that the champions league match against Manchester United would be enough to divide their attention long enough for them to make the kill.

Another thing which would surely have to put into account would be the form. When it comes to the form, Barcelona is seriously on a roll. They are unbeaten in their six matches, winning five of those matches and drawing one. The only draw came in their last match after their magical match against Villarreal where they came back from the dead to draw 4-4 with their opponents. Such exploits might prove too much for them if they should concede that amount of goals.

Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, cannot boast of such fantastic form. They have won four of their last six matches in all competitions. The other two games have ended in losses. They have lost two of their last three matches. They would be hoping that their sheer determination to put up a fight in the league would be enough to push the match in their favor.
