Triple S invitational Kiteboarding Competition

The Triple S Invitational kicked off a couple of days ago with riders from all around the world joining together in Hatteras, North Carolina. Hatteras National Seashore island is 70 miles long is only a thin strip of sand that is 30 miles off the coast of North Carolina. So it is basically out in the Atlantic Ocean leaving it's beaches and bays exposed to the elements to receive high winds and large surf which create great conditions for kiteboarding.

The competition is held at Real Watersports in Waves, NC and features the worlds biggest and most advanced slider park with two kickers, an 82 foot long A-frame, a 56 foot long rooftop rail, and 45 foot reverse rainbow.

The Triple S invitational event features park style and wake style riding, which means the riders will be doing tricks off of various features, and battling for $50,000 in prize money and the glory of being crowned the 2018 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational Champion.

The excitement starts off with the Triple S Open where amateurs are able to make themselves known by attacking the sliders and kickers with all that they've got to get a chance to compete with the pros. Two women and two men advance to the Invitiational and then the best of the invitational takes home the crown. Overall there are 24 men and 10 women battling for the glory of the Triple S Crown. Additionally 2 women and men are selected from video submissions to compete as wildcards in the event.

Here are some highlights from last years event

There are large purses offered for the the competitors with $12,000 , and $5,500 USD going to the 1st place men and women respectively. Also there is a rotational challenge with a large amount of prize money on the line. This challenge was not met last year so the prize money was added to this years giving the riders more incentive to go big. The first woman to land a 720 receives $2,160, and the first person (man or woman) to land a 1080 receives $3,240.
