Both players are both tied to a record five times Ballon D'or awards. So that means one may likely surpass the other in the next coming football season. However, there is likely going to be a stiffer competition for Ronaldo after his club, Real Madrid was paired with Paris Saint Germain in the latest UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw.

If we are to go by this, and PSG eventually sail through ahead of Real Madrid, this may just be the perfect chance for the world record signing, Neymar jnr. to get into the competition between the duo.

At one time, none of them agreed to have rivalry against each other. Both of them disagree about any personal rivalry, but the media are the ones fueling the rivalry between them.
Messi never had anything against CR7, he only plays for his team to do well. The same applies to Ronaldo.
But the media will have to fuel a rivalry to make money. When they publish good and captivating headlines about their non-existent rivalry, money will roll in.
