The Midfield Problem at Manchester United.

in #sportstalk5 years ago

If you are like me, you are frothing at the mouth at the news that the Dybala deal is in the dumps. Not that it was not entirely unexpected that Dybala would not want to make a step down into the Europa League while he has the potential to play with Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus are in the best position to win the Champions League, bar the chimney they have as manager having only won one trophy - the Europa League.

The issue with the Dybala news is that it was swiftly followed by a gut-punch that United were never interested in Bruno Fernandes. To make matters worse, this comes hot on the heels of news that Tottenham were interested in signing Bruno to play ahead of the want-out Eriksen.

Now what this tells me is that United have bottled the deal and Spurs have swept in and taken over the Fernandes deal. United are putting out the news that they were not interested in Bruno just to save face.

Preposterous!

I cannot tell you how many times I have woken up in the dead of the night to scroll my Twitter feed looking for any piece of credible news that Bruno Fernandes was on a flight to Manchester. The videos of him crying after Sporting's last pre-season game and again after getting pummeled 5-0 by Benfica in the cup final seemed to cement the idea that a move was imminent.

So you can imagine how fans, myself included, are incredibly pissed to say the least at the possibility that United are not going to make any more signings. Especially when that news is coming from credible journos like Simon Stone from BBC.

Midfield is trash without Pogba....even with Pogba!!

Now the midfield problem at Manchester United is that with and without Pogba the quality is not sufficient to rival that of teams in the top 6.

If Pogba were to get injured we would only have Matic who is a slug, the undependable Fred, McTominay who is seemingly coming into his own, the hot and cold Perreira, United's blogger Mata and Jesse Lingard, our very own dance coordinator and cardio training extraordinaire.

Without Pogba there is simply ZERO creativity in that midfield. Who is going to service the inexperienced forward line of Martial, Rashford and Daniel James now that that tosser Lukaku has been frozen out of the squad?

While I cannot really blame Solskjaer and his Brexit signings, I dread to think what he can achieve with this squad especially with Europa League commitments if we happen to progress into the later stages of the competition.

Can we manage a top 4 finish and possibly depose Chelsea. Let's face it. They are the low lying fruit here. Their forward line is absolutely shocking without Hazard. Tammy Abraham, Batshuayi and Giroud? Jesus. Good luck, Frank Lampard.

The remaining few days before the close of the transfer window are crucial. With a much stronger defense with the arrival of Wan Bissaka and the much anticipated Harry Maguire it would still be incredibly naive not to strengthen the midfield, especially CDM so as to shield that defense.

Here is to hoping the Bruno Fernandes deal goes through or maybe the plain signing of Shawn Longstaff.

Shit!

Sort:

The Erikson deal is looking likely though. You can have Tottenhams want away. Just don't put him on corners . We will take Fernandes. Thanks a million!

I can almost 100% guarantee we are not getting Eriksen and I will probably crawl on sharp rocks if somehow we missed out on Fernandes. I would gladly lead the siege outside Woodward's office to claim his head.
