RE: Has Football Spending Reached A Point Of No Return?

in #sportstalk5 years ago

It never ends. There has to be a bump-stop somewhere but the it just keeps going up and up. This Rooney transfer -
https://steemit.com/football/@leedsunited/rooney-ffp-fiddling-and-gambling-a-review-of-the-rooney-transfer
is just money cascading down the divisions. £100k a week for a championship player???!!
TV and Sky brought the money in and changed the game for the better but the amount of money these players are earning and being swapped out for is now, and has been for quite a while morally and ethically corrupt, yet I still want to see my team play...
Where is the answer and what will the ultimate outcome be?

I say the same thing it can’t always keep going up there has to be a point where it’s completely unsustainable! I mean clubs are going into administration after relegation a fair bit and I think it will continue as they are all trying to play the money game

There are plenty of football agents and administrators also pocketting big bucks for doing pretty much nothing

I really don’t know where it will stop but I hope my team keeps some sense about them I’d like to support them for many years to come, win or lose

We went into admin 16 years ago now and have never got back to the Premier League after we gambled all Champions League football and missed out by a point on the last day of the season.
Then the house of cards came tumbling down along with our position, right down to 2 seasons in League 1.

I think if owners are limited in pumping funds directly and through back doors like sponsorship deals and loanings against club assets we would see a completely different game! Teams like Leeds could retain youth they invested in, we would see teams like leads, Southampton and Crewe do so much better when they’re players are not poached every year

That's an interesting view point and I shall give it some thought , but in the mean time, not every club is or even has the potential to be a 'big' club. Crewe of course, is a great example of consistently developing youth talent and then selling them on but they will never be big enough (supporter base) to keep players that deserve to be playing at a higher standard.
Another vicious circle again!
