This series of articles shows some of the exercises we use in the Calasancias SM2 volleyball team or with lower categories.

To continue with the technical gestures, today we will see the forearm punching, this punch is used in two phases of the game, reception and defense. They are totally different moments and the techniques are also different, so we will see them separately

RECEIVING

Critical aspects:

  • Contact:
    • Platform formation, broad, homogeneous and stable.
    • Platform orientation (towards target area)
    • Smooth and slow movements (do not turn)
    • Path reading
  • Important aspects:
    • Foot position (broad and stable base)
    • Front facing punch
    • Contact height = player waist
    • Hip parallel to the net

Reception types:

  • Front reception
    • The setter is in the service trajectory
    • The body behind the ball
    • We let it bounce in the same direction in which the ball comes
  • Side reception
    • It is necessary to change the trajectory in which the ball arrives.
    • Drop the shoulder closest to the setter and raise the opposite.
    • Do not turn.
    • Receive in front of the lateral axis of the body (that the ball does not advance us).
    • Reception problem in the inner shoulder.
  • Finger reception
    • In initiation limits the development of displacement.
    • Contact above the head never on the sides.
    • Rigid fingers and hands up.
    • Coordination problem for first-time attacks.
    • Strong jump kick reception (it is more a defense than a reception)

Advanced phases

  • Find not only a drop point but also a stable trajectory.
  • Train a lot of coordination between receivers (communication).
  • Centrals receive short serve.
  • Receive all kinds of serves from all areas.
