India takes Maldives for the SAFF Championship

7 times champion and a defending champion will be looking for the 8th title tomorrow. The undefeated Blue Tigers is enjoying the good run in the Championship. They has not been tested so far in the tournament and are unbeaten till now. For the Championship, they will clash with Maldives whom they defeated by 2-0 in the group stage.


India so far have the easiest route to the final in the tournament. They were in the group consisting Sri Lanka and Maldives. India won the first game against Sri Lanka with the goal difference of 2-0. Sri Lanka didnt test them at all. In the second and the final game in the group stage, they defeated the Maldives team by 2-0 scoreline and went to the semifinal as the group winner. In semifinal, they got a comfortable victory of 3-1 against Pakistan. For India, Manvir Singh has been a star player who has scored 3 goals so far. He got a goal against Maldives and a brace against Pakistan in the semi final.

For Maldives, they had been luckiest team in the tournament. They reached to the semifinal of the tournament without scoring a single goal. In the first game, they played 0-0 draw against Sri Lanka. In their second game, they lost against India by 2-0 but was extremely luck to get into semifinal winning the toss against Sri Lanka. They put the best performance in the tournament defeating the best team of Group A by 3-0 in the semifinal. Ibrahim Waheed Hassan got two goal against Nepal in the semifinal.
