Arsenal and Napoli to battle it out for Torreira

Arsenal and Napoli are ready to fight for Sampdoria's Lucas Torreira. Both club have expressed massive interest in the Uruguayan international who will play in the World Cup in the coming days.

Last season was the real breakthrough season for Lucas Torreira. The defensive midfielder started 36 games for Sampdoria last season and fared really well. Operating as the base in a diamond midfield, Torreira was the key to every attacking move that begins at Sampdoria. His performances last season saw him being compared to the likes of Marco Verrati, which is a huge compliment in itself.

His performances attracted massive interest from big clubs like Juventus, Napoli and Arsenal. The latest however, has come from the latter two after Juventus have faded their interest. Both Arsenal and Napoli are ready to pay Torreira's release clause of €25 million. However, it is Napoli who have made a bigger bid of about €30 million, wanting to seal the move.

Napoli will try their best to get Torreira as a replacement for Manchester City bound Jorginho. As for Arsenal, they have always missed a Torreira like presence in their midfield. And Unai Emery will try to get anything and everything to have a good first breakthrough season.
