Liverpool in pole position
It was a dramatic week for Liverpool fans that saw them being so close to bringing Nabil Fekir to Anfield before Olympique Lyon released a statement saying that the player won't move. Liverpool have now turned their attention towards Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri.
The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan player scored 8 goals and assisted 7 more in what was a disaster of a campaign for relegated Stoke City. Shaqiri though, wants to move now that Stoke have gone down. Preferably, the midfielder wants to stay in England and clubs are showing interest in the Swiss international.
Liverpool are in pole position to bring the Swiss star to the club after a failed attempt to sign Nabil Fekir earlier this week. The good news though, for Liverpool fans is that Shaqiri has a release clause of just £13.5 million. Liverpool will be more than happy to trigger Shaqiri's release clause and get the player on the cheap.
Shaqiri is currently with the Switzerland squad preparing for the much awaited World Cup and a move before the end of World Cup looks unlikely. Liverpool have reportedly met Shaqiri's brother and his agent this week according to ESPN. However, a move will only be finalised after the player meets the Liverpool representatives, which will be after the World Cup.
