When the sun's out, we do stuff!! Welsh history

When the sun comes out here in Wales, you really do need to make the most of it. We don't get many dry, sunny days, so the moment the weatherman say "things are looking good", you pack a picnic and head out for the day.

We decided that we would take 1/2pint to "CASTELL COCH", which translates to "RED CASTLE" (Castell - Castle & Coch - Red)

Now technically this building is not a castle, its actually a house. The 3rd Earl of Bute had it built in 1875 on the site of an older castle dating back to 1081.

I believe @silverstackeruk has me nailed to a Tee. He once said that I hate wasting money so much, that being a "WELSHSTACKER" should become a term for people that hate spending money.....

Well, let's just say its not cheap to go here, and I was shocked at the price they charge to get in.

You can definitely spend hours walking around this building, taking in every little detail. The walls are painted and decorated incredibly fine and they even saved some of the old stained glass windows which are now on display.

Now 1/2pint did enjoy running around the ramparts, but if you do ever visit, try and come with out kids that are too young.

The surrounding are is covered in woodland and areas to play. These are all FREE, and to be honest we preferred exploring around the woods and would come back just to do this again.

I've never really thought about how lucky we are here in Wales to have such amazing history and thing a to do right on our doorstep.
