LIES: sometimes the needful

Truth skippers, lol

So I've been pondering lately, "why do people really lie? " A couple of reasons popped up; some that I'd love to share with each and everyone of us today.

First, a lie is a false information given intentionally by a person or group of persons. So to lie simple means giving a false information intentionally.

Christianity condemns lying of any sorts, and term it a SIN. Now, today is not the day to talk about religion, so I'd try not to be religious in all possible ways, because a random pick of 10 sane persons irrespective of origin and religion, aged 15-38, 7 of them must have told a lie, directly or indirectly, or they "skipped the truth" (I'll talk more on this in the course of this article) within 48 hours before the pick. So lying is a global ritual, lol.

So after thinking and analysing some of the times I've actually told a lie I deduced some of the many reasons why people lie:

Fear of the unknown

Imagine you were in the park with some friends at 9am on Saturday morning, later at about 11pm that same day you have a knock on your door. On opening you see two fierce looking cops,

"good evening HarrySpeed, sorry to bother you by this time, just that there's been a little issue of security attention in the hood. Were you at the park earlier on today?" Man, I'll say the most polite "no" a cop could ever imagine, lol. Now thing is I don't know what might have happened when we left the park, prolly a fight ensued and lives were lost, or properties damaged, or a cop was shot in the head by some dude that looks like me, lol, you can go on and on. So I'd stick to a "NO Sir, I've been on my laundry since God knows when" reply. Don't nobody adding no ex convict to my name baby, lol.
So, there, I'd lie because I don't know what might be the implications of saying the truth, and it's a cops thing man.
Oh and yeah, another scenario. You went for a reunion party a some bar with few friends back in high. After 3hours, you decides to leave, and you could recall that Marcus was so drunk to the letter K. Next day you get a call from the bartender, "did you also come for the reunion party with Marcus? " Your brain would in less than 3 seconds process the shape you left Marcus and the kinda things he's capable of doing if he gets that drunk. "Oh! No sir, couldn't make it, had a couple of engagements", and prolly add a polite "Everything good?" lol.

Fear of being punished

Almost similar to the first case, but here, the individual knows the consequences should he say the truth. Picture a final year student of a college impersonating for some dude in another class in an examination. He gets caught and the question comes "are you a student in this institution? " Folks that'd be a big NO from that guy. He can't just lose all he's toiled for over the years, prolly he'll sort out with the client he got money from, lol.

The Love/Affection factor

Now, this is the most controversial reason people lie. We lie to those we love, care about, have affections for and people we don't wanna lose, yes true. Many times we get caught up in the middle with questions that could spoil a relationship we've toiled for and worked on a whole decade, and a lie is all we need to prevent a shipwreck. Lemme share a story. Phils started shoplifting some 4,5 years back, he then went into full blown arm robbery; all these unknown to the parents who still saw the handsome "churchboy" they raised. Phils embarked on a "school excursion" in the minds of his parents. But right in his backpack he was fully kit for an arm robbery operation that was almost due. Fast track to the day of execution... They got to the building, Phils and his gang went in, things got ugly, the cops arrived, he tried to escape arrest. While trying to make way across the express, a truck runs him over. Phils is dead. Sammy ( Phils cousin) gets to the scene, hears the disheartening news. Finally the parents get to know Phils is gone. "Sammy, what happened?", and he answered "Phils was knocked down while trying to cross the express, guess he's been thinking a lot lately".
Or on your wedding day, you realized that your wife's kid sister was the girl you got messy with at the bachelor's night. "Oh come here honey, meet my younger sister. She just came in from Atlanta ". Lol... I already know how messed up your face will look.
Humans just gotta lie. We need it to survive some real hard situations.

Skipping the truth

This one is very common with the Christian folks. In order not to betray loyalty to their a particular person nor commit a sin against God.
Typical example; Jones and John are friends, they hangout together most times and people know their favorite spots, but for sometime they've not hung out together. John is avoiding Mary. And John is in Jones' house right now. So Mary comes to Jones'. "Jones please where is John? I've not seen him in a while", and Jones answers "Mary darling, it's really been long I hanged out, really really long".
Another scenario; Max and Saul just got back from an evening road walk. Max doesn't wanna see anyone. Ben comes few minutes after, on meeting Saul he asks "Is Max home?", and he answers " I just got in few minutes ago"
I can go on and on.
No one betrayed loyalty ☑
No one sinned against God by lying ☑
It's called skipping the truth, lol.
