During the Battle of Turkana, the Rebel Alliance debuted it's brand new T-65 X-Wing, which it used to fend off a large Imperial Flotilla, including 10 Star Destroyers and dozens of tie fighters.

I'll break down the Battle of Turkana, and explain what the Empire could have done better.
