StatueFriday - Nicolaus Copernicus
StatueFriday - Nicolaus Copernicus
Another statue from my home town is the one situated in front of the Varna Planetarium. It presents Nicolaus Copernicus holding sphere in his hand. The sphere symbolizes the Earth. It is one of the oldest statues made in 1968 together with the Planetarium.
The figure was made of metal frame covered with copper sheets. It is hollow inside and outside the copper changed the colour in the course of time.
It is a shame when vandals distroy statues and monuments and you can see how a piece of the base is broken. You may have noticed the sphere looks much newer compared to the statue. It is new, because the old one was broken again by some vandals and replaced later on.
