in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Everyone knows that the total alphabet in the English alphabet is 26.
But two centuries ago, some of the letters were used in English which are no longer in our known alphabet.

What were the letters and why are they not used in English anymore? They will be searched for reasons here. Now we will be familiar with 10 such letters.

1. Long S
In addition to the use of today's then there was another one. It was called long or long medial or descending. The name of the known name was short, terminal or round. There were specific rules for when these two S's would be used. For example, if there is a word, it will long But if two words are in the same case, then the first will be the longest and the second will be short. There are also some more complex rules and exceptions.

The top part of the picture below is Encyclopædia Britannica 5th edition. This is published in 1817. In this 5th edition of Britannica, we can see the last Long S. Since then, instead of changing all of their S, the short session. The lower part is the 6th edition, published in 1823, no long s.

In the early 19th century, the use of Long S used to come down one by one. The linguists demanded that the language is made easier by it. The printing press and the machines were just using short-says instead of the two. Because it was very difficult to differentiate the Long S with f. But in the writing of the hand, it takes a lot more time, long session usage in the second half of the nineteenth century.

2. Ampersand
Many people are familiar with it and have used it for a long time. But I do not know whether it was, in fact, a color and also included in the English alphabet. That is Ampersand or Ampersand. This ampersand was the sixty-fifth letter of the English alphabet.

The ampersand was written and used and used to mean 'and' and 'and'. Thus, when children read the alphabet, they used to say it in a tone, in this way, 'x, y, g and parse and' or 'x, y, z, and, per se, and'. Here X, Y, Z, and, per se, and the Latin phrase, which means itself by itself or itself. To recite the tone and, per se, and who seemed to be the ampersand.

In the middle of the eighteenth century, the ampersand was excluded from the alphabet. It is believed that in 1835, the Ampersand gradually got out of the alphabet due to the popularity of the copyrighted alfabetic song.

Done for now... :)
