Steem software is out of beta now?

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Just now, our beloved Steemit CEO @ned submitted a pull request to the main steem code repository:

https://github.com/steemit/steem/pull/1237 - Update README.md #1237

It looks like this:

No description was added. But what was changed?...

He had removed the (beta) from the readme file. This is what visitors to the GitHub see as the first header going to https://github.com/steemit/steem.

How exciting! This reminds me of when Gmail finally, finally left beta a long time after I joined forever ago. Google trusted that it was polished enough to be ready for mass adoption.

After so many hardforks and 13.37 million blocks, the steem blockchain and code is now ready to take on anything.

NOTE: This is a pull request, meaning it's not part of the main code yet, but could be close. It will need other developers to review and approve it and a codebase maintainer to merge it in.

Follow me! @bitcoiner

And vote for my witness bitcoiner!

Sort:

That Steem client may always be in open beta...... Bitcoin is arguably in beta too :-) Maybe all blockchains are for that matter.

Yeah, you're right... There's always room and opportunity for improvement ☺

Are we finally removing beta from the site?

Wow! First time I spotted a Ned on here.....too bad I'm all out of pokeballs.

a Boss move, lets go full velocity!

@ned - Neddie, finally found your active comment where I want it exactly. Doesn't beta means it's unstable release with no warranty on it ? Beta in Tech world for decades stands for - USE IT AT YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY. Are we safe ? :)

Btw, BitCoin is live in Japan already for massive use. Even Tax Law has been added, that all BitCoin payments and transactions will be taxable at 1.8% instead of regular 8%. So, Bitcoin is not arguably in beta too, but nice try :)

Maybe you have some comment on this ?

I would love to clear with you and myself finally are you a Hoax that represents Steem or you are really someone with so great knowledge as community upvoting you ?

Many thanks,

Digital Lucifer

P.S. I know you are too busy to answer all my concerns, but try from time to time to answer to a reasonable technical, economical, political concerns of your community... would be awesome, instead of complete ignorance except where you want to promote yourself. It would be great if I could ever interview you (even in far future) without previous setup or montage, to pull out and clear out some questions/facts missing (being cut off) from all your interviews until now :)

Thank you greatly for all you've done for all of us! We are forever appreciative. =D

Not everyone :)

I still see complaints every day. There are still some flaws that need to be fixed.

So it's going to stay?

exciting news

@ned FYI: My critical blockchain intel analysis and report on EOS's possible disruption of Steem and Bitcoin. The Steemit Inc 2017 Roadmap and Steem-Dev priorities may need to be rethought and reset to address what appears to be a real threat - unless you worked out something with Dan that is going to keep Steem's head above water?

oh wow, I was truly hoping for a bit more time so I have a fair chance to build up my steem too. :-(

Ned did a great commit today!

Ooh! Exciting times!

If this is the case then expect Steem to appreciate in value gradually from now on... There's just something about getting out of beta that screams VALUABLE!

13.37 million blocks

That's so leet.

Good eye! The STEEM blockchain has held up to all the transactions!

Here is the live feed of all the people trying to get an account!

Haha! Very true.. the signup process is very much like that, as I recently hear from folks I've urged to join!

I have my mom and girlfriend trying to get on steemit and they haven't been able to set up an account and get in because they didn't understand the password generation part and it locked them out entirely now. Any idea on when that will be fixed?

Unfortunately, if they didn't save their generated key, then no one can help them. Ownership of keys means ownership of accounts/balances in the blockchain world. They will have to sign up for new accounts, this time remembering to save all keys.

That's what I thought and when they try to sign up for a new account it says email/phone number is already registered to an account

They will have to use other emails and phone numbers because account signup abuse has been happening for a long time.

You can help with this service build by a community member: to open an accnt for them. I've triedit and it works. https://account.steem.vc/

Wow... that's very cool news! Even if it does take a little while before it's implemented, it seems like really perfect timing, considering the much greater inflow of new accounts we're seeing these days. I'm guessing it also means the consensus is that the platform is "stable enough" to head in towards mainstream adoption.

Mass adoption is close. Hold on tight guys. Continue to build up Steem Power. Accumulate, accumulate, accumulate. Key to success.

Sweet, thanks for the heads up! We could still use some polishing, but in the end the product is good enough to go to market....tweaks can be made after. :-)

Absolutely! It's been an action-packed year, or more than a year, and we were all part of it!

For real man! Can't believe I'm coming up on 1 year on steemit!

Same! Haha =D

Wow, big step! I did not expect this till after hardfork 20 at least. It would be good to no longer be in beta buy a part of me wonders if it is too early still.

I think it'll be official upon the next hardfork. This was just a submission to change the code, and still needs review and approval by other devs.

Ah, I gets ya! That would work out about right then.
