RE: The Steem News @ 2 October 2019

in #steem5 years ago

A recent change by Steemit Inc has meant that the 'canonical links' on a post will always show steemit.com as the 'master copy' regardless of whether it was published through any other front end or tribe site.

I have lately been pondering the possibility that @steemit's recent decrease in popularity is based on changing the conical link to their respective front-end's (this happened about 6 months ago I believe).

One of my ideas was for @steemit to change it back to the conical links pointing to Steemit.com for the meantime since it would lift all the other DAPPs eventually.

And based on the fact that Steemit Inc. changed the conical links back to Steemit.com, like it was before, only a week or two after I thought of this, I believe the move was intentional, but that it wasn't ever discussed with the public since it is a tough subject to discuss.

It might just be a coincidence but even if it was, this idea should be discussed IMO @pennsif since the entire Steem community suffers as Steemit.com decreases in popularity.

Once Steemit.com is able to disrupt social media platforms like Facebook, or even Blogger and Reddit, then it would be a good idea to hand the reins to other front-ends by changing the conical link.

I don't know.. what do you think?

Steemit.com's ranking on Alexa.com rose yesterday for the first time for a long time. I wonder if that was due to the canonical links changes just now filtering through...

I think it is.

This might become a heated issue but it might be good for Steemit to get the canonical links for now but to have a directory for the different DAPPs or somehow market the different DAPPs so it's fair.

That would be a good plan.
