DISCORD REPORT SOS FORUM - DAPPS.jpg
I’m looking forward to listening into the STEEM Community Discussion organised under the umbrella SOS FORUM on Thursday 8pm - 11pm UTC on MSP Waves. Further details from @pennsif can be seen here there is bound to be a great speakers list and a large audience. This week the Forum #3 covers:

DApps, Apps & Developments - nodes, business plans, delegations, marketing

The DApps & Apps which exist now and the ones which will be built in the near future can be a unique differentiator which demonstrates the unique characteristics of the Steem Blockchain – and could be a factor which means the currency has a breakthrough moment and cuts this invisible string to bitcoin!

It’s an important topic for the start of 2019 : Is this the Year of the DApps.
This post covers:

  1. A summary report of the DApps channel within the SOS Forum Discord Server
  2. Benefits of joining the debate: questions provoking discussion around: nodes, business plans, delegations, marketing, development

1: DISCORD REPORT – WHAT YOU MISSED

The discord channel has a discussion area – the “Working Group for DApps and Apps”. The discussion is a little light at this stage but is sure to kick off over the next few days. The first postings and discussions are mainly related to @shredz7 project tentatively named “Engine” and going through what seems like a community decentralized rebranding exercise. Shredz7 has used the forum to share news of his pending launch.

The forum has provoked a debate around the project “Engine” and also around communities and hivemind and one of the more positive things is the open feedback loop and collaboration. @shredz7 has put a call out for interface /web developer and has had some interest but is still looking for more assistance as I sense he is more Blockchain Developer than UI and Web Developer.

If you can help with web development – join the project in this discord server: https://discord.gg/yWCWsTm

This is just a short snippet about his project – definitely intriguing:

Engine is a DApp running on Steem using steem-state (currently in testnet) which means that it runs on top of the Steem blockchain without actually being directly coded into it. Engine's goal is to increase the agility and collaboration in developing more features for Steem. Inflation of the ENGN token will fund future development/marketing/community building in a decentralized way in the form of "grants" and so we hope there will be constant development of new features to add to the Engine network on the Steem blockchain.

Since the SOS forum kicks off in less than 24 hours – I’m sure there will be more debate to come. AND I look forward to reading and learning from the great community we have here. I love to see collaboration for the betterment of the blockchain.

2: BENEFITS OF JOINING THE DEBATE

I’m looking at some of the topics on the agenda for the forum and thinking with 100+ people involved by text or speech much knowledge can be shared, and collaborations can be sparked off. Who knows where the conversations will lead, from the first two forums we know there is a great host & guest list: this could be powerful: let’s see!

Nodes:

Q: What are the DApp managers experiences of the nodes – any feedback on performance / any risks to avoid /advice to be given!
Q: Which Apps have their own Nodes?
Q: Which Apps want their own nodes, and when?
Q: Any value in partnerships and sharing the cost?
Q: What are the limitations to progress – is anything controllable by the community or is it just wait tight for RocksDB?

So many developers will be in the room – I look forward to hearing from @therealwolf and others with their technical knowledge.

Business Plans,

Q: What’s the aim?
Q: How do you get self-sustainable?
Q: Are you reliant on the rewards pool?
Q: What are the revenue streams? Is there demand for people buying in from fiat?
Q: Do you have a credit card facility / was it difficult?
Q: Is demand for your interface Steem centric or is there a wider need or demand for the App or DApp
Q: How do you attract talented people to work on your team? How do you reward them?
Q: Do you need more capability in your team?/ Do you just need more contributors?

Would love to here from @steemmonsters and @oracle-d on this one?

Delegations

Q: How did you obtain delegation? @MisterDelegation / Community delegations?
Q: Are you comfortable using the Voting Power – is it the best use – is it driving development and adding value?
Q: Did the community delegate? Are the delegators well rewarded?
Q: Which delegation schemes work well : @partiko ? Any advice for others? Any lessons learned?

Would love to here from @partiko and @steempress on this one?

Marketing

Q: Are you competing with other interfaces for the same audience? Is it a Steem centric market?
Or are you looking at a real-world application /use case and creating demand for new users of Steem?
Q: Are you in a niche?
Q: How do you market to your niche?
Q: How can the community help the DApps market their project?
Q: Are we marketing the STEEM blockchain as a key development space for DApps? Steem is now being registered on DApp registers thanks to the @therealwolf – and the DApps are competing for space in those leaderboards with other big name blockchains.

Is there more we can do to support the DApps?

Development

What makes STEEM the best place to build DApps?

With good debate STEEM can SCALE faster!

Look forward to listening to the show………………..

Steem - The Best Blockchain 1.jpg

Thanks for talking about my Engine project — the new name will be Stratos (but hasn’t actually been offially announced yet) — congratulations on choosing the winning name. You’ll recieve 50 STEEM (10 will go to the rest of the top 5).

The biggest thing I’m looking forward to talking about is my decentralized funding style (which has been implemented already), where the community can vote on who receives funds for development, potentially preventing a StInc situation within Steem: If a developer is not doing their job well the community can vote them out of receiving payment (all done on the Steem blockchain).

Engine’s biggest problem I think will be marketing and the frontend stuff — you got it right; I’m no UI designer. I do think contests might be a great way to market (giving away STRTS, the native token) seeing how well my name contest did, we’ll see.

I’m looking forward to seeing interesting ideas in the forum and will be on later in the forum.

Thanks @shredz7 - great news - and wishing you all the best with the new brand. I will be following your project with interest!
