I'm wondering if SMTs are actually going to bring in extra functionality besides just being able to make a side coin.
You can already do quite a bit with the Steem API. It still needs a lot of work though.
I like the SMTs idea though. I guess being an ETH Lover for so long I see the power of what tokens can do for a the underlying protocol both in value and adoption of it's native currency.
Steem is ideal for Social Media b/c of it's features. EOS is probably our biggest threat but not at the moment since they have not even launched 'Steem 2.0'.
Apps like @Partiko are headed in the right direction. Very slick interface to Steem.
I am still waiting our communities though. Reddit is so popular b/c of the sub reddits.
Communities can tie right into SMTs since in many situations it may make more since for that community (hive) to have its own currency!
Steem and the building apps got to get that user experience right though. Instagram, Reddit, FB, Twitter are all user friendly non-technical.
Maybe points system built inside the steem apps is the way to go like Partiko, which can later be redeemed for Partiko Smt points or just a good ol' old fashion Steem up vote!
It's just got be fair for both the existing staker holders and the little guys coming in! It's a tough balance :-)
