I agree that engagement is key, and for me it's actually a lot more fun than how many votes I get. I have made some pretty good friends that way. I do feel bad when I miss a comment and don't reply. I also try to reply to all of them. I have Partiko on my phone, so I get notified every time someone comments back to me, which helps enormously. And I do actually read your posts all the way through before I comment! I hope the newer users will get something from this friendly reminder!

The new users should be engaging as much as possible in my opinion. Oh well, that's a choice they make and will have to be content with.

I really think the new users might not understand how important it is. I'm an engager by nature, so it came easily to me. I love to chat with strangers until they become friends. Not everyone is like that, though, and it can be intimidating. But it's important to suck it up and do it!

Quite probably. There's plenty of blogs extolling the virtues of engagement though...Still, the newbies are probably too busy not reading anything in preference for images of boulders, bus stops, gates and mushrooms, or uploading more blog banners. Can never have enough of them! 🤪

My cynicism comes through fairly strongly does it not? 🤔😉

It's not subtle! Haha! For the record, I have no banners at all! Not even a signature! When I was new I read a couple of posts about getting started, but I was so overwhelmed that most of it went right over my head. And I have posted the occasional boulder (or other simple thing) when I have had a boring few days and can't come up with a good post. My feeling was that it's better to post something rather than go silent for several days and have people forget about me. Maybe I'm wrong?

Don't get me wrong, I love a good boulder as much as the next person...The highlight of my year is seeing a boulder you know. (Not really).

Seriously, I get it...Sort of. But it's not really a very good way to interest others in a user's work is it?

Oh look, here's a blurry photo of a bus stop pole - Maybe it's just me...Don't find much interest in a steel pole.

I think there's a million other things to say that might inspire a little interest.

Still, what do I know, I'm a small fish anyway...And I don't have even one blog banner. Just a lowly little signature.

No, not the most productive way to get people interested. And even with the blogs that focus on photography, which I really enjoy, I prefer the ones that tell a story. Something that gives me a sense of who the blogger is.

Me too. It makes for a better experience.
