Choose Your Own Steem: Are We Entering the “Silver Age” of the Steem Blockchain?

in #steem6 years ago

Steem frontend development is reaching a whole different level. For the first time it feels like there are a few genuinely unique ways to experience the steem blockchain.

Steem Frontends on the Rise

Here are a few examples of steem frontends that you can use to get a different experience:

(1) There’s ChainBB, where you can create forums and have longer conversations than the steemit interface is designed for.

(2) There’s Zappl, who have built a Twitter-esque service on steem.

(3) The latest and greatest of them all might be utopian.io, a new open source community where people can upvote with steem.

Steemit Still Dominates

Right now it is clear that steemit is still the most popular by far. Everybody is so used to using Steemit, we trust it, and we have a habit of using it as home base.

Development really is speeding up. I could see things moving to the point where some people no longer use steemit pretty soon. They might exclusively post on Zappl, for example. A lot of these frontends are almost at that point.

I view diversification of the steem traffic as a huge good thing. Once we are able to break into sub communities, the whole idea really spreads. Imagine ten different distinct steem communities all working hard to grow.

That’s why this next year could be the “silver age” of the blockchain. It will be good times and we’ll have fun. It will be all the more exciting knowing that the “golden age” is still a few years away… I’d consider $10 steems to be the golden age.

More Communities, More Opportunities

When there is more diversity among the steem experiences available, there will be more opportunities for users to get involved. Every community comes with a ton of jobs, both official and unofficial. There will be moderators, developers, content stars, and a lot more.

In one year I think steemit’s domination will be fading. The best frontends will be building strong brands of their own. The first SMTs will be gaining traction and those communities will not even know about steemit in some cases.

It’s hard to imagine this world now. But it is coming.

What alternate steem frontend is your favorite? Why?

Awesome post! I've been so wrapped up in the ethereum space that I didn't even realize there were other Steem Frontends as you call it.

Yea they are really getting close to being good... Steem is kinda similar to ETH in that way, it's more of a backend that anybody can build on. Steemit is just the proof-of-concept and initial home base.

When zappl was first introduce i was quite happy not until, i later found out that any tweet i make will reflect on steemit, this discourage me from tweet. I think @ned should make zappl stand alone to avoid having too much tweet on steemit dashboard, i know this was one of the reason why some people neglect zappl.

You can make a second account specifically for using Zappl, like some people are doing.. I agree though it would be better if steemit didn't show those.

Doing that will be more like a waste of time as most people don't like curating tweet, unlike normal post.
Those that mostly benefit from tweets are whales, any minnow that try that will end up waisting their time.

BUSY.ORG was my go to especially when #Steemit was down. I like #busy.org's UI. But since the Steemit upgrade I haven't been on it much.

Yeah steemit's new layout is hard to beat! I did the same thing with Busy. It's still pretty good but steemit is spectacular right now.

That's when I started using Busy, too. But the Steemit upgrade made Steemit look a lot more like Busy did. Then Busy got its own facelift and removed one of my favorite features, the ability to tag a list of favorite users.

Great post...!
