Is STEEM close to Critical Mass?

Despite the lack of 'Free' advertising Steem receives in the media, it's actually possible we already have critical mass. Have a look at the Blockchain.info Bitcoin chart above.

Critical Mass - the minimum size or amount of resources required to start or maintain a venture.

What you'll see is Bitcoin has around 500,000 users just before the price jumped 10x from around $100 to $1000. Of course, at this time Bitcoin had massive mainstream attention and was featured by all the major news institutions around the world.

It was an incredible time for Bitcoin, and the price held its ground for quite a while until it lost momentum (due to some bad news stories) and then the price dipped well below $1000 and never really traded steadily at that price again for a few years.

But what was remarkable was the continuing surge in Bitcoin User Accounts (wallet addresses) even though the price never really peaked much above $1000 for that entire time.

Actually, after the price jump, Bitcoin quickly rose to 1M accounts and never looked back and in 3 years amasses more than 15M accounts without another significant price rise.

Steem currently has 991,604 accounts at the time of writing this article and is rapidly moving towards 1M accounts in the next few days.

Yes, it's going to be big news in the Steem community, but will it even be a blip on any news sites?

Steem has a Marketing Problem

A recent search on Coindesk, which is the arguably the most popular online crypto news website, returns very few stories about Steem.

In fact, there are only 4 solid stories about Steem over the last few years, with the rest just mentioning Steem in other featured articles like EOS.

Is STEEM newsworthy?

Of course, it is, but someone needs to start writing newsworthy stories and send press releases if we want to get more exposure.

Last time I checked there are over a thousand other crypto communities trying to gain the attention of media companies and yet this Steemit community of bloggers and writers choose to write about themselves rather than sharing real news with real news outlets.

Yes we are living in a Steem Bubble

So how are we going to move the price needle 10x so we can enjoy a steady stream of new signups and take advantage of this critical mass?

Do we need to start putting writing teams together to create newsworthy stories that can be submitted as Press Releases?

History shows we get a huge upswing in engagement when the price moves, but what can we do today that will make Steem more than a blip on the Crypto Landscape?

Personally, I'm busy working with a small team on BlockDeals and when we're finished it'll certainly be newsworthy if we can get enough community support but there are so many other great Steem projects out there. So why aren't we writing about them?

We pride ourselves on being writers don't we?

If you have some great Steem newsworthy story ideas then share them in the comments below and we'll see if we can turn them into Press Releases.

We already have enough critical mass, so now we just need to figure out how to tell the rest of the world about the exciting projects going on in this community.
